Export sales for new crop soybeans continue to mount. For the week ending August 20th, new crop export sales of 72.2 million bushels were reported. Export sales to China made up 56.2 million of those sales. To date we have new crop soybean export sales of 477.2 million bushels on the books, which is well over last year and the 3 year average.

The market is impressed with the current health of the crop with its 70% good to excellent rating vs year earlier level of 64% and may only assume the 2009 corn crop yield is gaining. Equally important is how the present trade is also very aware of the lag in corn maturity and any prospects for an early or even a normal frost/freeze event.
