Basis is the difference between the cash price and the futures price of a particular commodity on a given futures exchange. The factors that affect basis include expected supply and demand for grains at the elevator, transportation costs, the quality of grain that is to be delivered, and if there are other grains that can be substituted in the area. Successful management of basis risk can add to a producer's bottom line.

Soybean sales were good again this week at 30.8 million bushels. This was well over the highest pre-report estimate of 18.4 million bushels. China is still the number one buyer of US soybeans for the week at almost 15 million bushels.
