We will not get into a political discussion regarding the validity of "manmade climate change". Clients attending Allendale's annual conference noted a professional climatologist's view of Al Gore's video and "manmade climate change". We will let that portion of the discussion rest. However, some clients have asked us if the current administration's intentions to limit carbon emissions could impact the crops we plant or affect acreage in other ways. It is our understanding that Cap and Trade and other "carbon credit" schemes do not dictate what crops must be planted, only that ground enrolled in programs are no tilled. Also, it is our understanding that Cap and Trade, which has passed the House, will not likely pass the Senate. Again, we will only comment on this issue if there is solid question related to acreage or our markets in some way. So far, we do not look for a long term change in acreage or prices.
